From little on I was aware how happy my drawings and paintings made my family and friends, teachers and classmates. I got hooked on the JOY OF GIVING when I started doing portraits and experienced tears of happiness when I gifted my paintings. In my younger years I attended the Dayton Art Institute and as an adult I had the privilege to study under the great portrait artist Thomas Leighton in San Francisco. The single most important area in my portraits are the eyes. If I can capture the feeling behind those eyes, the rest of the painting is just there for support.
When I am not working on a commission, I try to express thoughts on a blank canvas. Every day of my life, my God given senses tell me what I find extraordinary…. and I almost always let out a gasp. This vision, this feeling, is what I attempt to paint…..Images and moments and colors that take my breath away are the inspiration for my art. I’m grateful that I have the ability to abstractly put my deepest feelings on canvas through color and form with the hope that it may resonates with you as well.

I had two long careers. In the first one I traveled the United States, Canada and the Orient promoting locally owned and local run hotels in the Hawaiian Islands. The beauty I was able to soak up is immeasurable and much of it was BREATHTAKING. My second career was as a wine broker and I don’t remember the next 40 years. Just kidding. In the 1970’s it was “IN” to own a piece of a winery and these owners were eager to impress all of us wine salespeople with the quality of their wine and the beauty of their winery. Again, I was surrounded by breathtakingly beautiful images and I will try to transfer these images to canvas that I hope you will enjoy.
